Texas-Louisiana Carbon Management Community (TXLA CMC)
Welcome to the Texas-Louisiana Carbon Management Community
About 50 carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects were announced in 2022 and 2023 along the Gulf Coast of Texas and Louisiana, U.S.A. People involved in these CCS projects in any way need vital information about this new technology (e.g., what it is, how it works, what it means for them). Six universities serving this area —The University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, University of Houston, Lamar University, and Louisiana State University— have joined forces to use their skills to provide much needed CCS information for people in the area.
Need for Information
We recognize there are needs for accurate and appropriate CCS information for many stakeholders including state and local government officials, diverse interest groups including workers, unions, land owner organizations, community groups, trade groups, environmental and other interest organizations, and local residents. Our approach is to use each university network, and their connections, as valued communicators for providing CCS information in appropriate formats that are both welcome and useful.
TXLA CMC Purpose
Our purpose is informational and educational while utilizing all the available tools including K-12 education, 2-year & 4-year universities, trade schools, graduate schools as well as informal education though fairs, museums, events, etc. We develop and share fact sheets, web resources, educational materials and physical and multimedia learning tools.
In addition, each university will lead topical research projects on key elements of CCS.
